Today I am sitting up at a friend’s computer in Pennsylvania, celebrating the New Year, and my Jan 1 birthday in a different manner from every other year that I can remember since about 9th grade. It’s weird. And, it reminds me of all the things that are changing, for better or worse, as well as the things that just keep on being the same. This is always a meloncholy time of year.

I read in a book recently that optimists think that the best of their lives are yet to come, and pessimists think that it’s already happened. I’m a little in the middle. Anchored to the good times like a docked ship, taking my canoe out into the big waters and then paddling back as fast as possible. Only after I’ve gone through something do I take the time to ask myself if it was good. (And Erin spoke down from the heavens and said: “This is good”)

Well, Happy New Year to all my friends out there. Thanks for always being the life of my cruise ship, wherever the hell its going…
