Graduate Life& My Anemone24 Aug 2006 09:31 am

It’s about time I pay homage to Jorge Cham, creator of PhDcomics. If you are ever considering going to grad school, please please please take a few minutes and browse through the archives. If you think that these are funny exagerations of what grad school is like then I pity and emphathize with your half-full glass.

After having gone to grad school for a year now (which pales in comparison to the lifers - I KNOW!), I can honestly say that I don’t think I’ve met one person who has gone for the “right” reasons. You know the ones - you read them on websites when you’re thinking about quitting your job and going to get a masters or phd. You convince yourself that you are not, in fact, trying to postpone life and that you have a definite purpose in mind. HA! Does anyone really have that anyway? Seriously…I’d really like to know.

Panic struck once I heard it was the entire wiring panel that needed to be replaced. My dad said he didn’t expect it to be finished by the time I had to drive back to Ohio. When I asked how much it would cost, he said, “I don’t want to scare you with that right now.” Less than 65,000 miles and my Jetta has cost me more than all of the plus 100k Hondas I’ve ever driven.

That was yesterday. But today the clouds have parted and I found out the warrenty that Nissan scammed me into buying (to lower the interest rate on my loan) may actually cover everything, including a rental car of the non-mercedes make.

I think I’m ready to get off the roller coster and spend some time on the calm waters of the lazy river.
