Well, my check engine light has come on…yet again. Instead of screaming and beating my head into the wall to dull the pain of owning such a horrible car, I’ve decided to take some advice from my buddhist monk friend and just see how things work out. So far I’m up to over $150, and I don’t know what’s wrong with it yet. So it could be ten times that, or nothing. Who knows? Where will the money come from? Who knows? Will I be living out on the street in a box, clinging to my master’s degree? Who knows?! I wonder if buddhists actually own cars….
Elsie got her third set of shots today. It’s amazing the difference between vet costs from here to Ohio. It was about three times as much here. She is in perfect health though. A lady I met at the vet today was able to describe her the way that I know her but couldn’t find the words: she’s got an old spirit. She is like a wise old woman in a puppy-size body. I think that is why I like her so much.
Poor Bear (my parent’s dog) is the opposite. He’s a five year old kid inside a gigantic Burmese body. Right now he is in so much pain - he had surgery to restore the tendon in his right leg. He’s got a metal, bolty contraption attached to his leg, from inside out, and has to wear an Elizabethean collar so he won’t lick it. I guess it’s good he has a young spirit - those are the ones that heal best.
I glimpsed an end to my thesis the other day. After a trip to Baltimore, I found some information that can narrow my research down and bring Edinburgh and Baltimore together. It’s still a long road ahead, but it will come and go as it should.
